From the very start, the possibility of a regional waste facility has been plagued with frustration.

Forty years ago - on January 23, 1972 – Queen's and regimental colours were presented to the 43rd Battalion (Bushman’s Rifles), Royal South Australia Regiment by the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Paul Hasluck, at a ceremonial parade on the Adelaide Oval.

This Army Reserve unit comprised men from rural and outback South Australia, Broken Hill and the Northern Territory.

To commemorate this event, a reunion is to be held in Adelaide on Sunday, February 5, commencing at 11.30am with a visit to Adelaide Town Hall Council Chambers to view the colours, now ‘laid-up’ there.

Lunch will follow at Keswick Barracks, after which there will be a visit to the Army Museum of South Australia and a heritage walk of the barracks, highlighting its historical features.

Much interest has been shown in the reunion, and it is hoped that most of the 400 men on parade that day, 40 years ago, will be able to attend and meet up with old mates.

Letters have been sent to past members, inviting them to attend.

However should a member not receive an invite, please contact Hank Ramm via email (margramm@bigpond.com) or Nat Cooke on 8266 0406.
