From the very start, the possibility of a regional waste facility has been plagued with frustration.
From the initial public outcry over the initial site, to the eventual dissolution of the original plan.
Now Berri Barmera Council has been left, cap in hand, to essentially beg for space at local landfill sites.
And they only have themselves to blame.
I understand the neighbourly thing to do is to help out where possible.
What I don’t understand is why it took Berri Barmera Council up until the 11th hour to ask for help.
Renmark Paringa, Loxton Waikerie and other councils across the state have been planning in advance for the proposed closure of waste sites in accordance with the Environmental Protection Authority.
To echo the words of Loxton Waikerie councillor Margaret Malthouse, I certainly hope Berri Barmera ratepayers "hold their council to task" over this shemozzle.
